Crop first, resize second
Cropping removes content outside the frame. Resizing changes the pixel dimensions of that selection. Keep proportions enabled to avoid stretching; turn it off only when distortion is intentional. Each change to the crop restores output size to the selected source pixels.
For an avatar, choose square or round, position the subject, then enter an output width such as 512. Round avatars export as square PNG files with transparent corners. Output is limited to 8192 pixels per side and 16 megapixels in total.
